CLONMEL TOWN 4 CAHIR PARK 0
we travelled to clonmel hoping to ease our relegation troubles by getting some return from this game , but alas it was not to be. we started the game well and competed with town in every area of the pitch , chances were few and far between for both sides , with both defences well on top .
town went close when Rory kiely crossed from the left and Ian Barnes looked like getting on the end of his cross until Paul conway headed the ball to safety.cahir created a good chance when town conceded a free kick 20 yards out and Stephen burke stepped to strike a great shot which looked goal bound until the town keeper pulled off a great save. With 32 minutes gone and cahir comfortably holding town, we conceded a corner, from this corner towns Stephen Ryan was left completely unmarked 6 yards out and had no problem in finding the cahir net and putting town one up . even worse was to follow 2 minutes later when while attacking in the town half we gave the ball away , ian barnes broke up our right wing and crossed to rory kiely who scored from close range to put clonmel two up , we settled town again after those couple of minutes of madness, and try to take the game to town but could not make that vital break through before half-time.
HALF-TIME CLONMEL TOWN 2 CAHIR PARK 0
the second half started with clonmel on top and they had a couple of decent chances to extent their lead , but to cahir's credit they hung in there, and gradually cahir started to take control of the game ,in the 60th minute stephen burke had a great chance, when after some great build-up play he found himself clear of the town defence, but sadly his well struck shot went narrowly over the town crossbar. at this stage of the game we were well on top and clonmel started to look very ragged at the back, we created another great chance in the 68th minute when Keith McGuire hit the post after some great play from us. soon afterwards keith mcguire again tested the town keeper who had to stretch high to his left to tip the ball over the bar. in the 77th minute we once again shot ourselves in the foot , when we gave the ball away from our corner and town broke quickly and ian barnes added a third for clonmel, after this the game petered out to it's inevitable conclusion. to cap off a bad day for us we conceded a fourth goal in the 83rd minute when Aaron moroney scored form close range on his first game back form a long term injury. to our credit we kept going until the end and you could not fault the effort the whole team put in.
